Trap 3: Decision Decay

Wednesday, May 2, 2018 - 12:00 to 12:30

Operational excellence requires disciplined decision-making. And that’s critical in today’s fast-paced digital processes, which depend on making the right decision at the right time. So effective teams agree on roles, decision rights, criteria, and timing. They communicate, and engage stakeholders, both before and after major decisions. They develop both near- and long-term action plans.

But too many teams over-invest in decision-making and under-invest in execution. They assume that execution - what happens after a decision – is someone else’s problem. They’re wrong. Every decision has a half-life, and for the most controversial decisions it could be as short as the time between meetings. Or in today’s digital world, as long as it takes for dissenting team members to spark resistance by texting their reservations to colleagues back home.

In this webinar we will address the following questions:

  • When are team decision-making and execution most at risk?
  • How can decision-making be structured to maximize support from outside the team?
  • How can team leaders ensure that decisions don’t unravel during execution?
