Peter Smith

Peter Smith is a supply chain and operations executive and consultant with over 30 years experience in industry and management consulting. He has conducted over 60 projects across a number of industries, with a focus on oil & gas, chemicals, and manufacturing. His expertise includes business process improvement, supply chain management, purchasing, IT, and manufacturing. Mr. Smith has considerable international experience from work in Europe, Asia-Pacific region, China, and South America.

Prior to working with FCB Partners, Mr. Smith was a Principal with Arthur D. Little, an international Management and Technology Consulting firm. In this role, Mr. Smith led a variety of projects to improve business processes and develop innovation strategies. Representative projects included redesigning supply chain processes for a Fortune 50 company deploying a new product platform and conducting a due diligence assessment for a potential purchase of a chemical manufacturing asset by an Alberta gas industry company.

Before Arthur D. Little, Mr. Smith was the Director of Supply Chain Consulting Services at Maxiom Group, a boutique, consulting firm. In this role, Mr. Smith led projects to improve supply chain processes for mid- and large-size clients. Projects included redesigning supply chain processes to reduce risks and costs, determining supply chain and IT strategies to improve supply chain security, and developing supply chain roadmaps for new products being commercialized.

Prior to Maxiom Group, Mr. Smith was an executive with Cabot Corporation, a global specialty chemicals and materials company. He held several positions at Cabot, including Global Director of Supply Chain Planning, where he was responsible for optimizing the company’s demand planning, production planning, inventory management, and plant scheduling processes. While at Cabot, he led a large-scale process redesign and ERP implementation project, converting most of the company’s administrative functions to standard software and optimized business processes. He also served as Director of Manufacturing Logistics, where he led efforts to improve the company’s manufacturing and distribution operations.

Prior to Cabot Corp, Mr. Smith worked for several leading management consulting firms. He was a Principal in AT Kearney’s Operations Management Consulting Practice, a Senior Manager in Arthur D. Little Supply Chain Management Consulting Practice, and a Senior Consultant with Ernst & Young. In these firms, he led and participated in projects for process redesign of order management, production planning, transportation, warehousing and ancillary supply chain processes.

Mr. Smith holds a Masters Degree in Operations Research and Industrial Engineering from the University of Massachusetts and a Masters Degree in Mathematics from the University of New Hampshire. His undergraduate degree is in Mathematics and Computer Science from the University of Maine.

Mr. Smith has been a frequent speaker and panelist at various professional meetings including those of the Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals. He was lead author of the book Logistics in Service Industries, as well as several papers appearing in industry journals. Mr. Smith resides in Cambridge, Massuchusetts with his two children.
