Process Performance Certification

Certitified StampEvery organization uses performance measures to track, manage, and improve operations. But too often, the measurement systems reflect the fragmented nature of the organization. They highlight operating unit performance at the level of product, market, or functional department rather performance of end-to-end processes or value chains. And to compound the problem, they emphasize past performance rather than future potential.

What’s missing is a way to assess organizational capability – the capacity to improve performance and sustain those improvements, especially improvements in core business processes. The Process Performance Certification tool is designed to address this need by posing questions and structuring input from key stakeholders in several areas including:

Process Health:  How well process outcomes align with strategy? Customer needs? Evolving business environment?

Process Performance:  What value does the process create? How well does it perform relative to the alternativesProcess Opportunities:  What resources are allocated to process investments? What returns are expected from process investments?

This tool provides Process Owners a way to assess current process health and a foundation for acknowledging accomplishments and targeting future opportunities. Its use will ultimately improve the process for its front-line performers and improve enterprise operations through cross-process alignment in the following areas:

1 = Chaos:  No confidence in performance, high volatility, not understood, unmanaged, unmeasured, unclear performance, limited understanding of how value is created, ad hoc, inconsistent elements

2 = Control:  Uncertain confidence, moderate risk, consistent performance, repeatable across transactions

3 = Competence:  Moderate confidence, low risk, documented superior performance structured management of change

4 = Competitive Advantage:  High level of confidence in future performance, hits stretch goals and outperforms competitors, dynamically self-correcting by performers or algorithms
